Motorists who use the parkbytext service have been told of a potential breach to customer data by “malicious software” during a service outage.
The mobile parking operator said it does not believe that any customer data was compromised but “we cannot say this with 100% certainty at this stage”, until further investigation is completed.
The company said credit and debit card information along with customer passwords are encrypted and have not been compromised.
However, the customer data that may have been compromised includes phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses and vehicle registrations.
Parkbytext experienced an outage during the week and moved to a different network to allow the system run as normal.
It later discovered “potentially malicious software” on its server and began an investigation.
The company has apologised for the “potential breach to our customers’ data” and promised to update customers following its investigation.
